From a very unpromising start, in heavy rain, the day could only get better. In the Anglers Car Park field were a male Redstart and a male Wheatear. The rain stopped. On reaching the old Pol Hide, and with little expectation, it was a great surprise to see a RING OUSEL come out of the bushes onto the grass bank we cleared recently. It flew in and out of the bushes several times and then made its way over to the big island where it was promptly chased off by two Blackbirds. It flew back to the brushwood piles on the right of the hide before going through the bushes again. This is only the 5th (?) record for the Wintersett Area. It was later seen, and heard calling, at 13.15hrs. A Whitethroat and a Sedge Warbler were also on the Pol.
