Wintersett
Res - The day had a fantastic start with a
singing Wood Warbler in Pits Wood on the south bank of the Top Res at 07.00
hrs. Unfortunately, is appeared to have moved on and wasn’t seen again. A
Whimbrel flew south at 07.40 hrs and another, or the same flew north two hours
later. Other numbers present were Common Sandpiper 2 Top Res, Curlew 1 , Linnet
25, Little Owl 1 Botany Bay, Grasshopper Warbler 2 plus a new male on the
Country Park.
Anglers
CP – Common Sandpiper 2, Snipe 1, Lesser
Whitethroat 2 (& 1 MHL Ponds), Swift 42, Dabchick 4, Greylag 6,
Oystercatcher 5, Redpoll 2 (& 1 Top Res). The 3rd summer
Yellow-legged Gull and LBB Gull were present most of the day.
Afternoon
movements – The showers produced more good
stuff during the afternoon. Dunlin 12 (in 5 parties), Wheatear 1 flew east over
the Country Park, Ringed Plover 1 north, Whinchat 1 male Country Park fields.
At 13.40 2 Sandwich Terns dropped onto the Country Park, moved to the Top Res
where they were sat on the buoys then left west at 13.56. A Green Sandpiper
dropped onto the Park Lake shallows at 15.28 and left west five minutes later.
Moth
Trap – Several Common and Small Quakers again,
1 Twin-spotted Quaker, 1 Powdered Quaker, 2 Brindled Pug, 1 Shoulder-stripe, 1
Pine Beauty, 3 Hebrew Character, 4 Clouded Drab, 5 Early tooth-striped.
