The Edge 21st May

Wombwell Ings mid AM- Present were 1 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Mute Swan, 16 Greylag, 14 Canada Geese, 1 Pink Footed Goose, 2 Shelduck + 6y, 20 Tufted Duck, 17 Mallard, 12 Gadwall, 2 male Shoveler, 1 male Garganey, 8 Lapwing + 1y, 4 Redshank, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Snipe, c15 House Martin still collecting mud, 1 Wheatear and 2 Sedge Warbler.
Warbler Way-Singing males included 10 Willow Warbler, 8 Chiffchaff, 8 Blackcap, 5 Whitethroat, 3+ Sedge Warbler, 1 Reed Wabler , 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Song Thrush and 1 booming Bittern. A close encounter with a Barn Owl was the highlight . Watched it flying low over the bushes in front of me. Concentrating so much on hunting, it was only 20feet when  it noticed me. Almost stalling in flight, it was able to make a rapid exit over the bushes.
Bolton Ings late AM/early PM-On the open water were 4 Little Grebe, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Mute Swan + 8 cygnets, 43 Tufted Duck, 12 Gadwall, 7 Mallard and 6 Pochard. Also present were 1 Grey Heron, 7 Greylag, 6 Canada Geese, 4 Lapwing, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Kestrel and 1 Greater Spotted Woodpecker.
