Wintersett 21.05.14

20°C,  hot and sunny all morning with a very light westerly.
Anglers CP:  The Oystercatchers have 3 young.   Mallard broods  11 + 4 small/medium.  Canada Goslings 14.  Common Tern 4.  4 pair of Black-headed Gulls are breeding. (2 islands + 2 rafts).
Wintersett Res: A newly fledged Blackcap was the earliest ever recorded.  Willow Tit 1.  A pair of Great Crested Grebe have at least 2 young.
Of interest: A Dingy Skipper was on the east bank WRes.
A 20cm grey/brown Soft-shelled  Turtle was basking in the shallow water off the north bank of WintersettRes this morning.  It was well camouflaged against the mud.  It was probably an unwanted pet and could have been here since the Ninja Turtle craze in the 1990s.
