Wintersett gets a 'biggy'...

In more ways than one. Whilst vis-migging from the hill a BLACK STORK was picked up circling over Haw Park at 09.55. It was joined by a couple of local Common Buzzards 'seeing it off' and dropped down over the Top Res. A quick run to the road overlooking the Res and it was relocated circling over Cold Hiendley Res slowly drifting eastward. Another phone call got Pete and Angie Smiths onto it as it circled directly above them and then began gliding east towards where the three of us (Fitzy, Dan n me)were viewing. giving Paul the chance to rattle off 120 photos of it (well mostly of sky but some got the stork). More Common Buzzards got up to harrass it over Botany before it glided off eastwards at 10.15 having been on view for 20 minutes. It was relocated over Southfield Res a hour and 15 mins later, then over Goole and Thorne Moors as it headed into Lincs. This is only the second modern day record for Barnsley, the first also flying over Wintersett. Photos will follow when Fitz gets time to sort them (could be a while). So - what of the long-necked dot over Langsett yesterday that could only have been a Common Crane?
