Carlton Marsh

I managed to walk to the hide at tea time just before the heavy rain came.  A Little Owl was sitting on an old lorry chassis next to an immature Red Legged Partridge near Bleachcroft Farm.

On the reserve were 2 Kingfishers, Green Woodpecker, Reed Warbler, 5 Chiffchaffs and 16 Siskins feeding on Alder seeds.  A Tawny Owl called at 18.20 as a Sparrowhawk flashed by its concealed roost.

On 15th 3 Water Rails (2 together) were seen in the main marsh and another on 17th.  Dragonflies included Migrant and Southern Hawker. (Dave Smith)

Barred Sallow, Common Marbled Carpet, Black Rustic and Green Carpet were the best of last nights moths in my garden.
