Recent highlights

Old Moor today: Bittern, Reedbeds,  and on Wath Ings were 119 Golden Plover, 8 Ringed Plover, 4 Green Sands, 8 Dunlin, Curlew Sand, 3 Ruff.

Broomhill Flash: Little Egret, Black-necked Grebe.

Yesterdays highlights included Osprey through Old Moor + 2 Spot Reds.

So no sign of the American Golden Plover since Thursday but it is good to know that they can still turn up despite the recent decline in Golden Plover numbers here in the last five years or so. There have been six previous records of American Golden Plover in the Barnsley area, all in the Lower Dearne Valley. Although the species has been ditched from the list of species requiring ratification by the British Birds Rarities Committee it's a bird that still has a 'rare feel' to it. Another shot below just to remind us of what a smart bird it was.
