Bolton Ings - 10th March

A bitterly cold day today, 0c at 9am when I started out only rising to 3c mid afternoon. Light snow this morning but then brightened up but with a strong easterly wind it was freezing. Bird-wise poor again, as last week,  all numbers low (a typical Webs count day) although Oystercatchers up to 5. Full List :- Grey Heron 1, Mute Swan 5, Canada Goose 44, Grey lag Goose 12, Cormorant 2, Great Crested Grebe 2, Little Grebe 10, Mallard 14, Teal 2, Wigeon 18, Shoveler 2, Gadwall 60, Shelduck 1, Tufted Duck 26, Pochard 14, Goldeneye 3, Coot 115, Moorhen 1, Oystercatcher 5, Black Headed Gull 455, Common Gull 8, Kestrel 1, Sparrowhawk 1.

Spent last couple of hours at Old Moor where the Bittern was booming strongly and another flew into roost. With the temperature down to minus 1c I called it a day.
