The Edge 14th March

Broomhill Flash mid AM - 85% ice-covered. On the water were 2 Mute Swan, 87 Wigeon, 36 Tufted Duck, 35 Teal, 15 Mallard, 8 Pochard, 5 Shelduck, 4 Gadwall, 2m+2f Goldeneye, 186+ BH Gull and 5 Common Gull. Also noted 2 Grey Heron, 81+ Canada Geese, 1 Redshank, 1 Snipe, 3 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Peregrine, 1 Buzzard, 4 Red Legged Partridge and 1 Little Owl.

Bolton Ings late AM- 60% ice-covered at start but virtually ice-free by 12.15pm. On the water were 1 Cormorant,4 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Little Grebe, 4a+1juv Mute Swan, 51 Gadwall, 34 Pochard, 26 Tufted Duck, 23 Wigeon, 6m+2f Shoveler, 7 Mallard, 1m+1f Goldeneye, 414+ BH Gull and 19 Common Gull. Also noted 1 Grey Heron, 13 Canada Geese, 11 Greylag, 2 Oystercatcher and 1 Green Sandpiper.

Wombwell Ings early/mid PM- Ice-free. On the water were 1 Cormorant, 102 Wigeon, 31 Teal, 9 Mallard, 4 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 62 BH Gull, 1 LBB Gull and 3 Common Gull. Also noted 2 Grey Heron, 66 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag, 1 Redshank,38 Lapwing, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Goldcrest and 1 Stonechat. 3+ singing Skylark,

Some good stuff there Alan and some good numbers, more than I saw at the weekend. Were the 4 Shelduck on Wombwell part of the 5 on Broomhill ? If not 9 Shelduck is a great record.

Not sure.Should have thought to pop in and check broomhill. Will try to do that in future.
