Today I decided to assist Gary Haywood and Mark Linnington up the Langsett/ Little Don area. There was certainly an increase in Lapwing and Meadow Pipit numbers since last week. Highlights; Brambling 1 Langsett res, Peregrine 2, Buzzard c4, Raven 2+,
Ring Ouzel 3 migrant ♂♂ (one joined by two which then gradually moved west), Wheatear 2 (♂♀),
Red Kite 1 hanging around the Hordron area (Sorry Mr. Lunn!)
. Plenty of dead/dying sheep for the scavengers! Another surprise was frogs spawning in a small wet area surrounded with deep snow.
With sand martin in our minds, a quick check at Worsbrough res on the way back produced a
Red Kite gradually heading south-west over Worsbrough Village at 16:05.
