Phew! Not the weather, (which was very very cold - 4 degrees and cloudy), but the number of birds we had to count this morning. 16000+ flew through and made for another brilliant vis mig watch on Anglers CP Hill.
Wood Pigeon 10,000, Fieldfare 2,100 n/NW + 60 E, Redwing 1670 N/NW + 1800 NE.
Starling 275 NW, Pink-footed Goose 44 NE/E, Swallow 1 S, Rock Pipit 1 SW heard at 09.17hrs.
At 11.45 the watch was nicely finished off with the appearance of 2 c/c Marsh Harriers that flew in and then did a u-turn and left high north. One was very distinctive with pale tawny upper wing coverts. They were probably birds from Swillington Ings.
Also at Anglers: American Wigeon 1 drake, Egyptian Goose 3, Goldeneye 18 + 3 WRes, Comorant 35, Water Rail 1.
Wintersett Res: Pintail 3 female, Teal 3. A late find was a SCAUP female/immature on Botany Bay.
An excellent day all round!
