Those are low duck counts for Wombwell Ings, especially for wigeon.
Just got an old 2001 report off the shelf that shows 520 wigeon in the area during October.
Just up the road there's thousands of wigeon currently on the Derwent.
Is this indicating that there is something wrong with Wombwell Ings at the moment?
One would have thought that more wigeon would be using Wombwell Ings now that the RSPB are in the valley.

Walked all the way round the Ings so that birds in the north east corner were not missed. There is long grass right upto the water's edge so birds could be roosting in there. The lack of short grass could also deter Wigeon.
