Edderthorpe news returns

After 2 weeks away it is disappointing to find the water levels higher than when I left but I understand some heavy rain during the last week is to blame. But water is flowing out into the river at present. Anyway, birds;- I'd only been here 15 minutes when a adult Osprey flew in and spent 20 mins fishing before heading off towards Ardsley. It reappeared a hour later and sat in a tree before heading off towards Old Moor. A juvenile Peregrine was also terrorising waterfowl during the afternoon including a Garganey that it flushed from cover. Shoveler 71, Wigeon 3, Teal 186, Golden Plover 70, Black-wit 1, Common Sand 1, Snipe 9, Dunlin 2, Common Buzzard 3 and Siskin 2.

There has been some heavy rain, but not enough to keep water levels at such a high level - especially when you consider that there is a wind pump there now that actually lifts water out of Edderthorpe and into the river.
I've tried to find out what's happened but I have received the usual reply from the RSPB - 'no comment'.
I know I keep banging on about this but if we don't get the right water levels then we won't get the number of birds that we should be getting (no matter how good it is).
Wath Ings looks great at the moment - but it achieved its potential 5 weeks later than it should have. Middle of August is unacceptable.
The RSPB have to realise that input in = input out.
And at the moment they are just not putting the effort in to get the water levels right. This needs to change.
