Wintersett + Gull Roost 29.01.17

-1 to 5 degrees,  cold start with with 4/8 cloud and a light, south easterly.
Moorhouse/Back Lane disused railway path: The elusive male FIRECREST showed briefly at 09.15 and 09.30hrs.  Willow Tit 1 and Siskin 2.
Cold Hiendley Res:  Water Rail 1.  Nuthatch 1 on edge of  HPWood.
Cold Hiendley Field: Skylark 150
Anglers CP: Little Grebe 5 + 2 WRes., 
Wintersett Res: Goldeneye 32 + 1 CHRes. A singing male Cetti's Warbler was in the boathouse reeds and a calling bird was on the west bank. 
WRes. Gull Roost: The gulls behaved well tonight, enabling observers to pick up notables.
The dark juvenile Glaucous Gull was in at 16.05hrs, followed by an adult Mediterranean Gull at 16.10hrs and a 2nd W Mediterranean Gull at 16.20hrs.  A 1stW Herring Gull with a deformed bill was seen. Its upper mandible was extra long and extremely hooked.
Also present:- Herring Gull 1200,  Great Black-backed Gull 18 and Lesser Black-backed Gull 4.
