Carlton Marsh

A Little Egret was surprisingly the first for this month. A juv. Cormorant and at least 2 kingfishers were on the scrape.

Today we received the sad news that Cudworth birder, Zygmunt Golebiewski (Ziggy) had passed away on 16th August aged 72, after a long illness.

Ziggy, from Carrs Lane, first started submitting bird sightings from Carlton Marsh to me in 1991 and continued to do so for many years. His rarest find was a Little Tern on 5th May 1995. There hasn't been another since!

In recent times he spent more time visiting Edderthorpe Flash until his failing health prevented him being active. He was a good bloke and will be missed by all who new him.
