Pochard 3, Oystercatcher 2, Avocet 4, Black-tailed Godwit 8, Common Sand 1, Yellow Wagtail 2, Common Tern 1, Swift 1. The bad news is that the river is overflowing into the flash with all the recent rain and what exposed mud is left is quickly disappearing.

Great news for us partisan Wath's then!
Sad news; especially in relation to breeding bird numbers in the Dearne Valley.
Last time I looked the water had stopped flowing over the bank; but undoubtedly some eggs and young will have been lost.
The situation with passage wading birds could be rescued if water levels are belatedly drawn down on The Mere, Wader Scrape and Wombwell Ings. But it's too late to rescue the situation with some of the potential breeding birds on these areas because many of them have already moved out of the valley e.g. avocets, redshank.
With the number of avocets seen in the valley this spring a target of 5 to 20 pairs should have been expected.
