Its no good them waving at yer has they do a fly past.
With the number of ospreys seen in that area over the last 20 years yer would have thought someone would have got off their arse and actually built a few platforms to see if this would entice them to hang abart.

Sorry chuck I've enough to do trying to make sure things are alright in the Dearne Valley and elsewhere. It's very very rare that I visit 'The Pond'. But there's enough regular visitors to the site that you would have thought that they would have achieved something with this by now.
It would be great to have ospreys breeding in the WAKEFIELD area. And surely there's a good chance of this with the number of ospreys that have hung around over the years there.
PS - good posts, but why the big font?

Unfortunately the Wakefield area hasn't had someone like you to make sure things are alright. Well, that, the RSPB, the Garganey Trust and the millions of pounds from EU, lottery etc. that has been invested in the Dearne Valley.
p.s. I use a mixture of text effects to enhance the look of the blog, (and to provoke a response!)

Ian Rotherham from Hallam Uni has a theory about this - if there isn't a group of people at grassroots level that can generate sufficient interest in relation to a conservation site then nothing will get done.
Work to secure more and better places for birds doesn't happen by accident

If it wasn't for decades of grassroots efforts that began in the late 1960s to the late 1900s then the YWT, RSPB, Environment Agency, Garganey Trust, Natural England and local authorities wouldn't be interested in the Dearne Valley because there wouldn't be anything left of any value.

Unfortunately the RSPB seem to have problems in understanding this.

I was being sarcastic.

Dunt matter if you were or you wern't - your comments gave an opportunity to get people thinking and remembering how things were.
The Dearne Valley has come along way - its good but good isn't good enough.
Only excellent is acceptable.
