As most of you are no doubt aware Bitterns have nested at Old Moor and are now feeding young. The shear number of visitors over the last few days has led to the decision to temporary close the Reedbeds, however a viewing area has been set up at the 'dogs leg' where it is possible to see them in flight. Apologies for the temporary inconvenience. Very little other bird news so far today.

No I didn't chuffing know that !!!
And now that I have picked myself up from off the floor can I just say........fffing wow!!!
And also - from now on, lets have the reedbeds closed every year through the breeding season, because I'm sure marsh harrier and a few other species would breed in there if it was more secluded.
Excellent excellent excellent news.
Crack him Harrold !!!
In the past there has been some big and important news on conservation in the Dearne Valley.
But breeding bitterns must be the biggest news EVER on the birding front.
Build it and they will come.
