Polite request

This blog has been a great success enabling Barnsley birders to keep up to date on sightings in the Barnsley recording area.  However, there is concern over one or two people using it like it was ther own personal blog.  There is nothing wrong with putting common species on the blog but only do so if the numbers are noteworthy and always include counts.  Also, Barnsley birders do not want to read or indeed see photos of birds that are from other areas, (Remember, the blog is called Barnsley Bird Sightings).  Yesterday news went on the blog of a lesser spotted woodpecker at Old Moor, which has not been verified.  I therefore wish to politly request that posting sightings for the Old Moor area is left to both WIM Man and Barnsley Blade in order to avoid any problems.  We would like the blog to be informative and acurate for all Barnsley Birders and visitors to remain well informed.

I agree with the above posting and so do many local birders judging by the number of 'moans' I've been recieving lately. I would also like to add;- postings from gardens are fine but please think that most visitors to the blog dont know where your garden is, at least give some idea of the district ie 'my Royston garden' etc. And secondly there are lots of abreviations that mean nothing to many visitors being used, when posting please keep this in mind, think of the target audience as someone not local . Please make a visit to this blog a pleasing and not a frustrating experience.

Perhaps guidelines for new authors regarding the extent of the Barnsley Recording Area, and the need for accuracy in numbers and details would be more appropriate, rather than appearing elitist and putting off authors, however politely, who haven't the experience of the old birders. Also information regarding rare birds and those that may be under threat if their whereabouts is revealed,
Many readers will not realise how long this area has been keeping birding records (at least 40 years?) and the need for accurate information which can be used when environmental and planning issues arise.

If the Lesser spotted woodpecker is referring to the one I posted it was a genuine mistake which I rectified soon after. If I caused any confusion I can only say sorry. I am new to this twitching game :-)
