An escaped starling sized parrot species was very vocal in the car park trees this morning. The only birds of note were Goldcrest, Water Rail and 5 Redwing west (A. Corrall/K. Bannister).
Kingfisher, 5 Shoveler, Cetti's Warbler, 12 Skylarks in stubble with 12 Meadow Pipits (L & A Corrall).
Insects on show were 3 Speckled Wood, 3 Comma, 2 Red Admiral, 10 Green Shield bug and 2 Squash Bug (C. Parkin).
2 Willow Emerald in tandem on the dike (R. Laverack/CG et al).

A 1st Winter Med. Gull was feeding on a field to the east this morning (JP). Also there 2 Lesser Black -backed Gulls and 25 Carrion Crows.
Later an unseen skein of calling Pink Feet Geese headed west at 11.20hrs. 15 Common Gulls were on the scrapes along with 9 Shoveler, Kingfisher and 2 Cetti's warbler. Also of note Coal Tit and Treecreeper (R. Laverack/CG).

An article in the Barnsley Chronicle today reported on the recent death of Chris Sayer from Royston, aged 74.
Chris was the perfect gentleman who was liked by everyone who knew him. He was involved as a volunteer with several local organisations over many years including our Wildlife Group, Rabbit Ings, YWT, and Barnsley Main Colliery. He was just a lovely bloke.

This evening. 220 Pink-footed Geese east at dusk.

A Mink was on the south bank.
The highlights of today were Little Egret, Green Woodpecker, Treecreeper, Goldcrest, 20 Skylarks and 6 Yellow Buntings.
Also 3 Willow Emerald (2 in tandem) near the hide(L & A Corrall).
The scrape is liable to disturbance on Thursday as a contractor should be working in front of the hide.

Also a very late Large Red Damselfly, 3 Migrant and 2 Southern Hawkers.
And Common White Saddle Fungi (Helvella crispa) (C. Parkin)
56 Teal on the wader scrape was the highest since 2021.

10 Redwings west were the first for this autumn and 30 Skylarks and 4 Meadow Pipits were on the top fields. Single Meadow Pipits trickled through thereafter (JP).
A little later 5 Buzzards were in the air together, 12 Starlings flew over and 4 Red-legged Partridges were in a nearby field (L & Corrall).
A Grey Wagtail was seen near the cottages and a Siskin (the first for this autumn) was in the car park (CG).
At mid-day butterflies included 4 Red Admiral, 1 Peacock, 1 Small Tort. 18 Comma, 4 Speckled Wood, 7 Small Copper, 4 Small White and 1 Large White.
2 male Vapourer moths were on the wing along with 1m Southern Hawker, Migrant Hawker and 9 Common Darters (C. Parkin)
