Woolley 4th July
17 species of butterfly included 230 Gatekeepers, 12 Marbled Whites, 1 Small Blue and 9 Common Blues (C. Parkin).
Low Cudworth
A Humming Bird Hawk Moth was feeding on Valerian in Les Corrall's garden on 3rd July.
4 Peregrine Falcons were flying over Firth Avenue at 09.26hrs on 5th July (D. Standish). They are almost certainly the breeding pair from Ardagh Glassworks with their 2 offspring.
Carlton Marsh
A Barn Owl has been hunting regularly in the evenings. This one appears to be ringed.
A pair of Teal and 13 Herring Gull were present on 5th July (K. Bannister).
2 LRP's and an Oystercatcher were on the wader scrape on 6th July (D. Standish).
Today 7th July
Single Oystercatcher and LRP were on the wader scrape.
A Curlew called as it flew over at c11.30hrs, a Sand Martin flashed through, and a Goldcrest sang in the car park. An adult male Kestrel, grounded, appeared to be unwell (L & A Corrall).
Earlier a Common Tern came in to feed at 09.26hrs and left east at 09.40hrs (CG).
5 Gatekeepers and a Comma were amongst the many Ringlets flying.
