Bolton Ings - Dense mist was a bigger problem than at the other two sites visited. Even when the mist lifted occasionally, it was not possible to identify birds on the northern side of the pool. In its visible moments, the open water revealed 2+1y Mute Swan, 70 Tufted Duck, 12 Mallard, 2m+1f Goosander, 1 Pochard, 5 Cormorant, 250+ Coot, 13 Common Gull and 3 Herring Gull. The metal ring on the Marsh Tit makes identification straightforward. It was clearly visible today. No metal ring means Willow Tit. Any Willow Tits ringed in the future will also have a colour ring as well as a metal ring. Also present were 2 Grey Heron, 1 Buzzard, 3 Bullfinch and 1 calling Water Rail.
