The Edge 23/01/2019

Broomhill Flash - 90% ice-cover.  Present were 1 Mute Swan ( 304Y on red ring on left leg), 250+ Canada Geese, 13 Greylag, 11 Shelduck, 84 Wigeon, 50 Teal, 24 Gadwall, 22 Tufted Duck, 20 Mallard, 20 Shoveler, 7 Pochard, 1 male Pintail, 1 Cormorant, 25 Coot, 3 Red Legged Partridge, 2 Snipe, 1 Lapwing, 116 BH Gull, 4 Common Gull, 2 LBB Gull, 1 Herring Gull, 4 Mistle Thrush and 1 Song Thrush. Also seen were 120+ Golden Plover flying around Wombwell Ings  and 200+ Woodpigeon in the trees along the R. Dearne.
Bolton Ings - On an 85% ice-covered eastern pool were 4 Mute Swan, 36 Gadwall, 35 Tufted Duck, 29 Pochard, 17 Mallard, 2 Teal, 2 Goldeneye, 4 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 446 Coot, 21 BH Gull, 11 Herring Gull and 5 Common Gull. Also present were 2 Goosander over east, 2 Little Grebe (on R, Dearne ), 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Barn Owl, 80+ Lapwing over east at 12.20pm, 2 Snipe, 2 Jay, c50 Goldfinch and 2 Bullfinch.
