The Edge 22/07/2019

Wombwell Ings  - Highlight was a calling Whimbrel that passed over west at 9.14am, landing briefly on the Fleet before continuing its' journey. Present were 9 Mute Swan, 2 Canada Geese, 24 Mallard, 3 Gadwall, 1 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Kestrel, 35 Lapwing, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Green Sandpiper, 81 BH Gull, 3 Skylark, 4 Pied Wagtail, 6 Linnet and 1 Reed Bunting. Early morning Peter Kent also had 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 juv Yellow Wagtail.
The Fleet - Viewable from Wombwell Ings Hide were 25 Canada Geese, 1 Little Egret, 4 Grey Heron, 16 Lapwing, 1 Ringed Plover, 68 BH Gull, 3 LBB Gull and 2 Herring Gull. P. Kent also had 5+3juv Little Ringed Plover and 1 Oystercatcher.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2+3y Mute Swan, c70 Greylag, 13 Canada Geese, 15+14y Tufted Duck, 13 Mallard, 9+16y Gadwall, 11 Little Grebe, 1 Little Egret, 2 Cormorant, 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 83 Coot, 9 Lapwing, c10 Snipe, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Common Sandpiper and 2+3y LBB Gull. Peter Kent also had 2 Peregrine, 1 Hobby, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Dunlin and 1 Redshank.
Bolton Ings - Highlight was a Bittern that flew in at 11.57am and landed on the front edge of the eastern pool. It flew off west towards Old Moor Rspb at 12.05pm.  On the open water were 18+4y Mute Swan, 29 Gadwall, 3 Pochard, 9+2y Little Grebe, 3+2y Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Egret, 4 Cormorant, 176+7y Coot, 12 BH Gull, 1 LBB Gull, 1 Herring Gull and 3 Common Tern. Also noticed were 2 Chiffchaff, 1 female Blackcap and 2 Linnet.
