Wintersett + Ringing + Insects 08.09.19

13 - 17 degrees with 4/8 cloud and a light westerly.
Wintersett Res: Water Rail 1 west bank.  Cetti's Warbler 2 males - west bank and north bank.  Goldeneye 3 + 1 CHRes.. 
Anglers CP:  Scaup 1 female.  Pintail 3.  Goosander 12.  Common Sandpiper 1.
Haw Park:  Hobby 4.
39 Birds were ringed: Highlights were:-  Whitethroat 1 retrapped + 1 ringed.  Willow Warbler 2.  Sedge Warbler 1.  Blackcap 4.  Reed Warbler 2.  Chiffchaff 8.  Coal Tit 2.
Lepidoptera: Small White 1 west bank WRes..  A Comma and a Red Admiral  NE WRes..
Odonata: Brown Hawker 1 west bank WRes..

Ewden valley 8/9/19.

More expected for the time of year in excellent light. Visible movement south were Meadow Pipits c. 428 and Swallow c.50. Also, - Hobby soaring over the valley and it or another later hawking insects. Peregrine 1, Sparrowhawk 3, C Buzzard 6+, Kestrel 3. Raven 5, Stonechat 7+ include 2 ad. males, Spotted Flycatcher 2 together.

11 - 16 degrees with 7/8 cloud and a light north westerly.

Going west: Snipe 1.    
Going north: An adult and a juvenile Common Tern at 10.20hrs.   3 Yellow Wagtail.
Going north east:  1 Merlin.
Going south: 31 Swallow. 
Going south west: 11 Meadow Pipit.   4 Alba Wagtail.
Anglers CP: Swift 2.   Hobby 2.
Wintersett Res: A Cetti's Warbler on north bank.  Common Tern 5.
13 birds were ringed: Highlights - 5 Blackcaps, 2 Chiffchaffs and 1 Reed Warbler.


Carlton Marsh

On the wader scrape 3 Shoveler, 5 Teal, Little Egret and 2 Dabchick. 2 Swift, 10 House Martin and c25 Swallow were over the main scrape. Elsewhere Kingfisher, 7 Tufted Duck, 5 Jay, GS Woodpecker, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, 2 Willow Tit and 1 Meadow Pipit east.( Dave Smith/Jim Plant)

Butterflies included 6 Red Admiral, 5 Speckled Wood and 1 GV White. (CG)

Wombwell Ings -Present were 6 Mute Swan, 66 Shoveler, 44 Teal, 26 Gadwall, 9 Mallard, 4 Wigeon, 1 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Coot, 51 Lapwing, 1 Knot, 18 BH Gull, 3 LBB Gull and 15 Mistle Thrush ( Broomhill Park ).
The Fleet - Viewable were 1 Mute Swan, 23 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag, 3 Mallard, 1 Little Grebe, 2 Little Egret, 1 Cormorant, 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 23 BH Gull, 2 LBB Gull, 31 Stock Dove and 2 Yellow Wagtail.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 4+3juv Mute Swan, 34 Canada Geese, 8 Greylag, 27 Gadwall, 27 Tufted Duck, 21 Mallard, 4 Teal, 1 Shoveler, 22 Little Grebe, 5 Cormorant, 2 Little Egret, 167 Coot, 4 Moorhen, 29 Lapwing, 1 Snipe and 20+ Swift.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 4+4juv Mute Swan, 24 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 12 Gadwall, 7 Mallard, 4 Tufted Duck, 3 Pochard, 3+1juv Great Crested Grebe, 3 Little Grebe, 6 Cormorant, 204 Coot, 2 Moorhen and 1 LBB Gull. Also present were 2 Buzzard, 10 Lapwing over west and 2 Grey Wagtail.

Oxbow pond, - 3 Green Sand, 2 C Snipe, 1 L Egret. Winter the best time of year for down here so hopefully better things to come.

Wintersett + Vis Mig 06.09.19

13 - 17 degrees with sun and scattered cloud and a north westerly wind.  Rain showers from 11.00 - 13.00hrs. 
Anglers CP + VisMig.: Goosander 2 west.  A Greenshank flew into the shallows at 09.40hrs.  13 Snipe went west at 10.18hrs. A Hobby took a Swift over north end at 10.40hrs.  Swift 11. Sand Martin 1.   House Martin 200.  Teal 1. Shoveler 14.   21 Chiffchaff in the hedges and a Yellow Wagtail over the east bank field.

Wintersett + VisMig + Insects 05.09.19

13 - 16 degrees,  cool with 1/8 but increasing cloud  and a moderate westerly wind.

Going south: An Osprey at 07.35hrs.  2 Red Kite at 08.45hrs.  Meadow Pipit 145.  Sand Martin 3. Grey Wagtail 3.  A Mistle Thrush went south west.
The earliest ever autumn Pink-footed Geese 31 east at 07.42hrs and 38 south east at 08.03 hrs.
Going east: Yellow Wagtail 1.
Anglers CP: Lapwing 450.  A Willow Warbler was in the east bank meadow.  Swift 10
Cold Hiendley Res: Wigeon 6.
Hymenoptera: 2 Hornets were on the west bank CHRes. One caught a Common Blue Damselfly and ate it.
Lepidoptera: A Comma, a Red Admiral and a Peacock were in Haw Park Wood.  A Small Tortoiseshell was at CHRes..

Wombwell Ings - Present were 8 Mute Swan, 75 Teal, 37 Shoveler, 25 Gadwall, 11 Mallard, 4 Wigeon, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 1 Coot, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 85 Lapwing, 1 Knot, 1 Ringed Plover, 21 BH Gull and 4 Linnet.
The Fleet - Viewable were 2 Mute Swan, 291 Canada Geese, 6 Mallard, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 1 Kestrel,  1 Ringed Plover, 3 LBB Gull, 1 Kingfisher, 20+ House Martin, 1 Pied Wagtail and 2 Linnet.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 4+3juv Mute Swan, 98 Canada Geese, 11 Greylag, 20+ Tufted Duck, 19 Gadwall, 17 Mallard, 2 Teal, 1 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 25 Little Grebe, 3 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Cormorant, 176 Coot, 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 21 Lapwing and 1 Pied Wagtail.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 4+2juv Mute Swan, 1 Canada Goose, 4 Mallard, 3 Tufted Duck, 2 Gadwall, 6 Little Grebe, 4+1juv Great Crested Grebe, 6 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron and 203 Coot. Also present were 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel, 1 Snipe and 1 Grey Wagtail.
TPT -Almost back to car at Old Moor Rspb when, at 13.14pm, an Osprey flew overhead from the Field Pool and headed towards Manvers Lake.

Carlton Marsh 3/9/19

13 Blackcaps were caught,  one of which was ringed at Anglers Counrty Park on 3/7/19 (Pete Smith), and an adult moulting Willow Warbler and juv. Garden Warbler. 9 Teal, 7 Shoveler and Little Egret were present.

The Fleet - Viewable were 2 Mute Swan, 87 Canada Geese, 7 Mallard, 1 Cormorant, 3 LBB Gull and 1 Skylark.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 4+3juv Mute Swan, 38 Canada Geese, 19 Greylag, 27 Tufted Duck, 21 Mallard, 20 Gadwall, 3 Shoveler, 3 Pochard, 1 Teal, 28 Little Grebe, 4 Cormorant, 2 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 176 Coot, 4 Moorhen, 25 Lapwing, 2 Snipe, 20+ Swift and 1 Pied Wagtail.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 4+3juv Mute Swan, 2 Greylag, 8 Gadwall, 3 Tufted Duck, 2 Mallard, 5 Little Grebe, 3+1juv Great Crested Grebe, 11 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron and 203 Coot. Also present were 3 Buzzard and 1 Kestrel. A Bittern flew in from the west end and landed in the reeds on the far bank at 11.59am.

Anglers CP: Swift 13 around + 24 south.  Teal 1.  Shoveler 11.  Sand Martin 2.  Dunlin 1.
Haw Park Lane: Mistle Thrush 10.  
MHL Big Pond: 4 big juvenile Pochard.
Lepidoptera in the area: Painted Lady.  Small Tortoiseshell.  Small Copper.  Green-veined White.  Brown Argus.  Brimstone 1 male. Common Blue 1male.
Odonata in the area: Ruddy Darter 1m.  Common Darter.  Blue-tailed Damselfly 1m.  Common Blue Damselfly.

17 - 19 degrees with 4/8 but increasing cloud and a south westerly wind.
Anglers CP: Swift 10.  Dunln 1.  A Green Sandpiper went south.  2 redhead Goosander west.  Whitethroat 1.  Yellow Wagtail 1. 
Wintersett Res: Goldeneye 1 female. Yellow-legged Gull 1 adult (Psycho).
Haw Park Wood: 2 Hobby over.
Lepidoptera: Red Admiral and Green-veined White ACP.  A Peacock and a Small White at Botany Bay.  A Painted Lady, a Large White and a Comma WRes.. 
Odonata: A male Emperor at Botany Bay.
Reptile: A Yellow-bellied Slider was in the north east corner WRes..

Going south west: Dunlin 3 at 07.25hrs.  A Ringed plover at 07.42hrs. 
Anglers CP: Dunlin 1.  Swift 10. Common Sandpiper 1.  Hobby 2 adults chasing hirundines. Wigeon 4.  House Martin circa 200. Linnet circa 50.  Yellow Wagtail 5  2adults +3 juveniles.

Wombwell Ings - Present were 8 Mute Swan, 47 Teal, 28 Mallard, 21 Gadwall, 15 Shoveler, 3 Wigeon, 2 Little Grebe (Corner pond ), 2 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Kestrel, 114 Lapwing, 1 Wood Sandpiper, 1 Knot, 27 BH Gull, 1 Common Gull, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Whinchat and 1 Linnet.
The Fleet - Viewable were 99 Canada Geese, 49 Greylag, 8 Mallard, 3 Cormorant, 2 Golden Plover, 1 Lapwing, 4 LBB Gull and 1 Wheatear. Early morning Gary Haywood also saw 1 Little Grebe and 3 Ringed Plover.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 4+3juv Mute Swan, 17 Canada Geese, 33 Gadwall, 22 Tufted Duck, 19 Mallard, 4 Teal, 3 Shoveler, 23 Little Grebe, 4 Cormorant, 3 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 178 Coot, 5 Moorhen, 15 Lapwing, 1 Snipe, 40+ Swift and 2 Meadow Pipit. 
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 4+3juv Mute Swan, 12 Canada Geese, 11 Greylag, 10 Mallard, 8 Gadwall, 5 Tufted Duck, 2 female Pochard, 4+1 juv Great Crested Grebe, 4 Little Grebe, 10 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron and 191 Coot. Also present were 1 Kestrel, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Grey Wagtail, 3 Blackcap and 2 Coal Tit.

The highlights today 3 Willow Tits, 2 Coal Tits, Little Egret, 2 Shoveler, 3 Kingfisher and 1 Golden Plover calling as went south (Jim Plant).

A Swift was seen over Firth Avenue, Cudworth (Dave Standish).

72 birds were ringed: Highlights were -  8 Blackcap,  28 Goldfinch,  2 Whitethroat,  5 Reed Warbler and 5 Chiffchaff.
