Autumn Number 1 at Wintersett 30.08.12

A very cold and overcast day (13C)  for the time of year.  Extra layers, gloves and wellies needed.
The first OSPREY of the Autumn arrived this afternoon at 13.25. It was a juvenile,  fishing over Botany Bay and Wintersett Res until 13.43hrs.  It then slowly circled around, gaining height, before heading south.   Notably the same date as the first autumn Osprey last year,
A dark juvenile Marsh Harrier was hunting at Old Royson Flash at 13.10hrs before leaving to the north east.  An adult Hobby was hunting hirundines at Anglers ACP late this morning and again at 14.25 hours.
Wintersett Res:Common Sandpiper 2, Swift 2, Whitethroat 1,   Mallard 106, Gadwall 9, Wigeon 4, Teat 3 + 1 ACP,  Common Tern 1 adult.
Old Royston Flash: Greenshank 6, Ruff 1.
Cold  Hiendley Res:Yellow Wagtail 3 + 1 WRes + 1ORF, Grey Wagtail 1,  Feral Pigeon 16 (in west field)
Haw Park Wood: Siskin 1
Anglers CP:Pintail 1
