Edging It.

Broomhill Flash- Oh what a beautiful morning. Whilst trying to identify an unusual juvenile grebe( turned out to be a Black Necked Grebe) in flew two cream crowned Marsh Harriers at 9.50 am. One decided to stay for the next hour but the other flew off towards Old Moor. A few minutes later a pair of Little Egrets were seen flying from Wombwell Ings towards Old Moor, to a backdrop of a soaring Buzzard over Bolton west end. 2 juvenile Little Ringed Plover , 1 juvenile Ringed Plover and 1 Dunlin flew in at 10 am, below 8 Snipe disturbed by the circling Marsh Harrier. The extras included 3 Green Sandpiper,1 Common Sandpiper, 3 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, 5 Little Grebe, juvenile Great Crested Grebe, 3 Shoveler , 2 Teal, 2 Cormorant and 2 juvenile LBB Gull.

Bolton Ings-  Very quiet on the old railway track with few calling birds . On the open water were 28 Tufted Duck ( + broods of 5,4,3,3and1), 4 Pochard, 3 adult Great Crested Grebe + 1 juvenile, 2 adult Mute Swan + 2 cygnets, 8 Little Grebe + brood of 4, 7 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 2 LBB Gull, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 cream crown Marsh Harrier at 12.25pm.
