Bolton Ings et al - 9th February

Main talking point yesterday was the weather and its consequences, again mild 7c with heavy showers and a strong wind hampering viewing.  After all the recent rain obviously the river was high but thankfully a good couple of feet off flooding Old Moor. Struggling for highlights this week, still 6 Goldeneye (2 males) and the first Redshank of the year. No sign of the 'resident' Buzzard. Full list :- Grey Heron 1, Mute Swan 8, Canada Goose 28, Grey Lag Goose 75, Cormorant 2, Great Crested Grebe 2, Little Grebe 5, Mallard 7, Teal 24, Wigeon 12, Gadwall 24, Shoveler 6, Tufted Duck 21, Pochard 6, Goldeneye 6, Goosander 6, Coot 152, Moorhen 12, Lapwing c150, Redshank 1, Black Headed Gull 144, Common Gull 8, LBB Gull 1, Kestrel 1.

Looking onto Wombwell Ings from the Old Road, plenty of water and 11 Grey Herons.

Went onto the Reedbeds at Old Moor late on, the male Bittern appeared at 5.25 climbing the reeds and booming a couple of times , great views again. At least 2 Barn Owls also present.
