Edderthorpe Sunday
Early morning there were;- Little Egret 12, Mallard 581, Teal 73, Shoveler 68, Pochard 11, Wigeon 5, Little Grebe 44 Common Sandpiper 1.
An evening visit to mainly see if any egrets are roosting came with a positive answer. Seven were present at 19.00, one left towards Old Moor at 19.52 and six flew into the riverside trees. When a couple of Grey Herons joined them in the same trees three of the Little Egrets decided to leave and headed off for Old Moor at 20.10. A further Little Egret came in from the north at 20.30 to join the already roosting birds and make a total of four which could still be picked out at dark (21.00) when I left. So there you are Barnsley Blade, there are others roosting in the valley. Also 496 Canada Geese came in to roost and a Hobby flew over the Flash at 20.15.
At present there are over 1800 waterfowl and 1000 waders present on the Flash - quite a spectacle.

Great blog Graham, some brilliant counts and roosting Little Egrets interesting. Only 19 at Old Moor last night, we now know where 4 of them were, traitors. The 3 that left you at 20.10, arrived at Old Moor at 20.16, a 6 minute flight, quite impressive.
