The Edge 17th September

Wombwell Ings - Present were 2 Mute Swan, 103 Teal, 35 Gadwall, 31 Wigeon, 8 Mallard, 7 Shoveler, 6 Pochard, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Great White Egret, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Cormorant, 4 Little Grebe, 3 Moorhen,, 1 Kestrel, 36 Lapwing, 2 Snipe and 4 Skylark over.
Broomhill Flash - The sight of the Great White Egret , leaving Wombwell Ings for Old Moor, was surpassed by a kettle of 8 Buzzards circling over the eastern end of Cat Hill. Also noted were 2+5y Mute Swan, 49 Gadwall, 37 Teal, 30 Mallard, 17 Tufted Duck, 6 Wigeon, 5 Shoveler, 2 Little Egret, 5 Cormorant, 16 Little Grebe, 86 Coot, 12 Moorhen, 12 Snipe, 5 Lapwing, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, c20 Swallows and 1 Little Owl.
Bolton Ings - Highlight was a Bittern flying down the eastern pool. On the open water were 2a+4y Mute Swan, 25 Canada Geese, 40 Shoveler, 30 Gadwall, 11 Tufted Duck, 5 Mallard, 3 Pochard, 1 eclipse male Garganey,16 Little Grebe, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 95 Coot, 3 Moorhen, 15 BH Gull and 1 LBB Gull. Also present were 5 Cormorant, 3 Grey Heron, 72 Lapwing and 2 Grey Wagtail.
