The Edge 14th October

Wombwell Ings - Present were 2a+1y Mute Swan, 150+ Canada Geese, 36 Greylag, 75+ Mallard, 46 Wigeon, 14 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 2 Shoveler, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 4 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 1 Kestrel, 46 Lapwing, 9+ Snipe, 88 BH Gull, 1 LBB Gull, 3 Skylark, 5+ Meadow Pipit and 4 Reed Bunting.
Bolton Ings - Highlight was the the brief appearance of a Bittern on the edge of the reedbeds . Just long enough to set up my video camera and get 2 seconds of action before it disappeared back into the phragmites. On the open water were 3a+4y Mute Swan, 25 Mallard, 10 Tufted Duck, 9 Pochard, 5 Gadwall, 5 Teal, 1 Shoveler, 12 Little Grebe, 4 Great Crested Grebe,111 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 22 BH Gull and 5 Common Gull. Also present were 3 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Kestrel, 6 Lapwing, 1 Snipe, 1 Green Woodpecker, 3 Jay, 1 Grey Wagtail and a flock 30+ Redwing.
