The best thing that happened today as far as I am concerned was seeing Sophie Pinder and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust with their grass cutting machine mowing the meadow! A sight for sore eyes., We have been gradually cutting invasive Hawthorn, Birch and Willow over the last two winters in readiness for this day.
Birdlife this morning included 1 drake Pochard, 2 Shoveler, Water Rail, 2 Cormorant, Little Egret, Grey Wagtail, 2 Coal Tits, 3 Goldcrest, 4 L. Redpoll, Willow Tit, Great Spot Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, 3 Song Thrush amongst a notable influx of Redwing and blackbird. (Richard Laverack/CG)
This afternoon 38 Pink Feet Geese flew west at 13.42hrs, 15 Fieldfare, c70 Redwing, c25 Blackbird, 15 Long-tailed Tit 15. (Dave Smith)
