Carlton Marsh

The best thing that happened today as far as I am concerned was seeing Sophie Pinder and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust with their grass cutting machine mowing the meadow! A sight for sore eyes., We have been gradually cutting invasive Hawthorn, Birch and Willow over the last two winters in readiness for this day.

The Western Meadow

Birdlife this morning included 1 drake Pochard, 2 Shoveler, Water Rail, 2 Cormorant, Little Egret, Grey Wagtail, 2 Coal Tits, 3 Goldcrest, 4 L. Redpoll, Willow Tit, Great Spot Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, 3 Song Thrush amongst a notable influx of Redwing and blackbird. (Richard Laverack/CG)

This afternoon 38 Pink Feet Geese flew west at 13.42hrs, 15 Fieldfare, c70 Redwing, c25 Blackbird, 15 Long-tailed Tit 15. (Dave Smith)
