Carlton Marsh & Ferrymoor Flash

Carlton Marsh

There were 6 LBB and 1 Herring Gull on the wader scrape this morning. (K. Bannister).

Yesterday a Peregrine Falcon attacked a Red Kite at nearby West Green (N. Lunn).

Ferrymoor Flash
Drake Pochard, 17 Greylags, 3 pairs of Canada Geese with broods of 5, 4 and 12. Mallards with broods of 7 and 8 very small young and 3 that were well-grown. A Moorhen pair have 3 young. 2 Oystercatchers were feeding at least 1 well-grown young and 1 Little Ringed, and 1 Ringed Plover were nearby.

Cudworth Common

Although the ash plain and the flashes are very much abused by off-roaders, squads and 4 by 4's, the site still manages to produce a good deal of flora and fauna. Today 2 pairs of Lapwing, probably with young, with Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Whitethroat, Mistle Thrush and 2 singing Reed Warblers.

Cotton Grass is thriving on the ash plain and Southern Marsh Orchids are common.
A female Broad-bordered Chaser added even more colour.
