An owler!

No news from anyone at Old Moor today and I only managed Broomhill Flash a couple of times where little of note other than Goldeneye.

A really interesting record that has reached me today concerns no less than four Short-eared Owls at a roost site in the west of the area. A blast back to the good old days at Wath Ings!

If only the 700 Corn Bunts etc could come as well...

Short eared owl and corn buntings are a sad loss.
But I do think the biggest loss we have had in the vally in recent years is the sight and sound of 20 to 30 whooper swans. There seems to be no attempt by the RSPB to encourage this species to return to the valley. With what I can gather whooper swans are not even mentioned in the RSPB Management Plan for the valley.
You would have thought that all the traditional species would be included within the management plan.
