Old Moor
Bittern Watch
RSPB are kindly operating a
Bittern watch scheme which allows visitors to Old Moor the chance to see the Bitterns
close up and even take photos. The Bitterns are being carefully monitored and
visiting sessions for the general public will be in the company of staff or
registered volunteers and are between 9.30am and 4pm split into a morning and
afternoon slot. There is a booking system to avoid over filling the hide. To
book, please contact Kate Thorpe at Katie.Thorpe@rspb.org.uk
If any registered volunteers are
willing to help run a monitoring session for the public it would be
appreciated. There are maps in the hide for volunteers to write down the
direction and times of feeding flights and also how regularly the male is
booming and where he is. Also, if any registered volunteers are willing to do ‘out
of hours monitoring’ this too would be appreciated. This must also be arranged
through Kate or Dave Waddington.
