Carlton Marsh

It was a little warmer today for a walk round. The birds responded by singing more and there was a definite movement of Lesser Black-backed Gulls. 5 really fine looking adults (two of them very vocal) were on the wader scrape with 7 adult Herring Gulls, 1 immature Common Gull and 3 immature Mute Swans. All wearing yellow Darvic rings. A Kestrel and 2 Buzzards were in the air, but still no blackcaps. A Meadow Pipit flew over and Greenfinch likewise. A Water Rail called from the main marsh.

Later in the day 2 Redshank and a Little Egret were on the wader scrape with 2 Grey Heron, 12 Teal and c20 Gadwall. (Dave Standish)
