Carlton Marsh

Today's walk round provided c100 Herering Gulls, 1 Adult LBB Gull and 1 adult Cormorant (Sinensis) type on the wader scrape. I counted 3 Blackcaps, 15 Chiffchaffs and 6 Willow Warblers (birds were also singing in my garden and Dave Smith's at Carlton so the extra ones had obviously arrived overnight. 3 Jays (not altogether), 4 Meadow Pipits (1 displaying). They havenn't bred here for years, I hope they stay.
Lesser Celandine, Wood Anemone and Garlic Mustard flowering for the Orange-tip butterflies.

Rod Heeley on his walk had 6 Yellow Buntings and 4 singing  Skylarks over the adjacent fields.

There were plenty of butterflies on show in the lovely sunshine.
Chris Parkin had the highest counts 3 Brimstone, 1 Small White, 1 G.V. White, 38 Peacock, 14 S. Tortoiseshell and 8 Comma. 2 Bee Fly (1 appeared to be firing eggs down holes in the embankment and our first Green Shield Bug of the year.

Geoff Mller had an early male Holly Blue in his Cudworth garden this morning.
