Lovely morning on Wharncliff Chase today, in spite of a dodgy Achilles’ tendon and knee! Sun was shining, visibility great and skylarks singing in the heavens - great for uplifting the spirits! Best from 10+ Wheatears, 3 Raven, 4 Curlew, Stonechat pair, Cuckoo heard close by in Wharncliff Woods, male Tree Pipit showing well and parachute displaying, 5 Meadow pipits, 6 Buzzards,  2 Green Woodpeckers, 3 Redlegged Partridge.  Also nice to see Dave Woodriff and finally put a face to the name!

You did well with the merlin- did you see that after you left us? We saw the displaying tree pipit on the track after you left, but had no luck with redstarts on the way back or at the Roundabout plantation. Saw the post you did today re Pied Fly at Langsett - great stuff!

I saw the Merlin nearby over my house actually, fantastic house tick! It’s funny that I saw the Redstarts but no Tree Pipits and you were the other way around, that’s birding for you! Hope to be up on WC soon and maybe we’ll see Pied Flys in the woods up there quite soon too.
