Carlton Marsh

A ringing session this evening proved to be very good. Of the 44 birds caught in 2 nets only 2 were retraps. They  included 6 Reed Warblers, 2 Blackcaps, 3 Whitethroats, 1 Garden Warbler, 2 Willow Warblers, 11 Chiffchaffs, 2 Reed Buntings, 8 Blue Tits, 2 Willow Tits and 4 Longtailed Tits. A cracking male Southern Hawker managed to release itself from the net.

Meantime 2 Green Sandpipers flew SE at 20.20hrs and Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers were close by.

As dusk approached a fledged juvenile Tawny Owl came close to the hide and perched for us briefly and Noctule and Pipistrelle Bats were hunting overhead.

Earlier in the day a Water Rail called and a male Banded Demoiselle was seen from the hide, its still scarce here.
