Pyropterus nigroruber      Haw Park 19.07.16       ASmith

Many thanks to Mike Denton for identifying and providing information regarding this beetle.
Pyropterus nigroruber.   It was  found  previously, in Haw Park by Dave Beardsell on 4th August 2012. It has a national status of Na (thought to occur in less than 30 10 km squares). It has two centres of population - south Yorkshire/Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire and north Yorkshire. Its great rarity is due to the fact that it is saproxylic (found in dead wood).

Thanks for the information John.
Also of interest:
A Lesser Stag Beetle (Dorcus parallelipipedus) came to a light trap in Hemsworth on 19.07.16 per Francis Hickenbottom (Wakey Nats).
