Carlton Marsh

It is pleasing to see Fieldfares in good numbers again. We have seen more this autumn already, down feeding and moving through, than recent autumn/winters. 57 flew south at mid-day. On the wader scrape this afternoon a good number of BH Gulls, Herring Gulls and Common Gulls along with Cormorant. On the main marsh a Kingfisher was present and a Buzzard flew over.

A Small Copper butterfly was seen again on the same Common Ragwort flower in the mid-day sun. (Chris Parkin)
One kept doing this in mild weather in 2006 right until the 23rd. As far as I know this is still the latest in Yorkshire, but as it is due to become colder this record will be hard to beat.
