The Edge 08/11/2018

Wombwell Ings - Highlight was a Little Owl in the hedge alongside the back field. Also present were 250+ Canada Geese, 120+ Greylag, 45 Teal, 44 Wigeon, 10 Shoveler, 2 Mallard, 2 Goosander, 1 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 1 Moorhen, 152 Lapwing, 80+ Golden Plover, 8 Snipe, 1 Dunlin, 59 BH Gull, 1 Common Gull, 4 Skylark, 6 Meadow Pipit, 3 Pied Wagtail, 2 Stonechat and c25 Linnet. K. Fisher also saw for a couple of minutes a Brambling at 10 o'clock in Broomhill Park.
Broomhill Flash - The best bird, a Great White Egret, was picked up by Seev flying south east at 10.40am. His morning got even better when he located a Peregrine hunting through a flock of Lapwings at 11 o'clock. Also noted were 2+3 juv Mute Swan, 26 Shoveler, 23 Teal, 17 Tufted Duck, 5 Wigeon, 4 Mallard, 1 Little Grebe, 8 Cormorant, 2 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 5 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 19 Lapwing,  c.150 winter thrushes(c70% Fieldfare and 30% Redwing) and c40 Linnet.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 2+2 juv Mute Swan, 1 Greylag, 46 Tufted Duck, 15 Mallard, 7 Teal, 3 Pochard, 1 Shoveler, 2 Little Grebe, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 12 Cormorant, 313 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 11 BH Gull, 5 Common Gull and 3 LBB Gull. Also present were 39 Lapwing, 1 cc Marsh Harrier, 1 Kingfisher, 5 Jay and 1 Grey Wagtail.
