Bolton Ings - A quiet morning then at 12.03pm a Bittern flew all the way down the front edge of the eastern  pond. Five minutes later a Marsh Harrier appeared  and a Peregrine flew east above it and then turned west chasing, but just failing to catch, a Woodpigeon. At the same time a Kestrel was hunting above the tip. The Kestrel left and was replaced by a Sparrowhawk. What a sight to see three different raptors in your bins at the same time, particularly when they were mobbing each other. This is what makes Bolton Wandering worthwhile. On the open water were 2 Mute Swan, 4 Mallard, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Little Grebe, 6 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 372 Coot, 4 Common Gull, 3 BH Gull and 1 Herring Gull. Also present were c120 Lapwing over, 2 Jay, 4 Fieldfare and 16 Redpoll.
