30/6/22 Midhope, Langsett and Underbank Res late evening

Midhope Res

Sadly the juvenile Oystercatcher has died but there were 6 adults around the res itself.  However, the juvenile Common Sandpiper is now independent and there were at least another 4 adults too. 2 separate Little Ringed Plovers were seen and 7 juvenile Lapwings. There are two broods of Tufted Ducks (3 ducklings total), 95 Greylags (at least 28 goslings) and 6 Little Grebes, a pair of which were nest building. A juvenile Mandarin appeared briefly from vegetation on the dam wall before returning to hide again. A Hobby flew low across the fields towards Midhopestones and a Raven flew up the valley towards Langsett.

Langsett Res

7 adult Great Crested Grebes were on the res, 2 briefly displayed on the western shore and 2 fed close to the dam wall. 4 or 5 Common Sandpipers were around, 4 Oystercatcher, a pair of Tufted Ducks, 114 Canada Geese and a Kestrel family too. A Buzzard circled lower down the valley carry a young rabbit.

Underbank Res

3 Little Ringed Plovers were flushed by a dog walker as rain fell around 7pm. A Common Sandpiper adult was tending to at least one juvenile.
