Carlton Marsh

New in today a male Wigeon. Also present Kingfisher, Cormorant, Willow Tit (SE3709) 2 Goldcrest and Buzzard. The latter caught a Wood Pigeon on the edge of the wader scrape and carried it off to a nearby hawthorn, where it was harassed by several Crows and Magpies.
2 Snipe left at dusk and a Barn Owl was hunting the Western Meadow. (Dave Standish)

South Kirkby Industrial estate (tip)
On the lake were Little Egret with a number of Common and Black Headed Gulls and also of note were 2 Buzzard and 10 Grey Partridge.
The embankments on the access road to the new units were planted with wild flowers earlier in the summer and include the very striking blue Cornflower. The importance of planting wild flowers like this cannot be overstated, and as there has been no frost, butterflies continue to be attracted to them. Today Red Admiral and Large White  were seen.
