Carlton Marsh

Members of the YNU visited today concentrating mainly on botany. Octogenarian Don Grant opened my eyes to the amazing variety of Brambles, showing me at least 6 different species on the disused railway embankment. Southern Marsh Orchids are now proliferating in the meadows along with Lesser Stitchwort and others.
Butterflies included 2 Common Blue and 2 Small Heath.
LRP, Kingfisher, Green Woodpecker and Garden Warbler were the only birds of note today.
