Carlton Marsh

At 07.50hrs Keith Bannister alerted me to a Whimbrel in a field at the back of the Wader Scrape. It continued to feed before flying on to the scrape, but after being harassed by a Lapwing, it flew off in a westerly direction calling as it went at 08.15hrs. This is our first record since August 2009. Although we have 50 previous records for the species, this is only the second bird to actually come down to feed. The previous one was way back on 25/4/1993.
Also present Redshank, LRP, Grey Wagtail, Canada Goose with 4 young, Greylag with 6 young. A Great Black-backed Gull and 2 + 5 Herring Gulls flew north and Garden Warbler continues to sing with other recently established warblers.
A Fox was seen with 3 cubs yesterday
