The Edge 09/05/2017

Wombwell Ings - Walked on to the sight of 60+ Swift and 30+ Swallow hawking low for insects along the Bulling Dyke, at times only five feet above my head. Surely  warmer days can't be too far away. Also present were 37 Canada Geese, 31+6y Greylag, 1 Pink Footed Goose, 4 Shelduck, 15 Gadwall, 12 Mallard, 5 Tufted Duck, 4 Shoveler, 3 Teal, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 3 Grey Heron, 11 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 8 Lapwing, 3 Avocet, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Redshank, 25 BH Gull, 6 Skylark, 3 Pied Wagtail, 1 Yellow Wagtail and 2 Mistle Thrush.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2 Mute Swan, 19 Canada Geese, 6 Greylag, 2 Shelduck, 14 Pochard, 9 Tufted Duck, 8 Gadwall, 2 Teal, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Little Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 17 Coot, 4 Moorhen, 2 Red Legged Partridge, 1 Kestrel, 4 Lapwing, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Common Sandpiper, 7 Herring Gull, 1 LBB Gull and 50+ Swift.
TPT - c80 Swift hawking over the Trail. Singing males included 11 Willow Warbler, 8 Chiffchaff and 4 Blackcap.
 Bolton Ings - Singing around the hide were 3 Whitethroat, 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 reeeling Grasshopper Warbler and a yaffling Green Woodpecker. On the open water were 2+6y Mute Swan, 9 Greylag, 2 Canada Geese, 18 Tufted Duck, 9 Mallard, 9 Pochard, 7 Gadwall, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 39+3y Coot, and 225+ BH Gull. Also present were 1 Lapwing, 1 Kingfisher and 1 Grey Wagtail
