This morning I met up with Alan Crossland, who was leading a walk for the Barnsley Naturalists. We only went as far as the perimeter of the Symphony factory. There was nothing unusual, but it passed a couple of hours on with friends I hadn't seen for while. Bird wise there were 5 Whitethroats, 1 Blackcap, 2 Meadow Pipit, several Skylarks, 2 Reed Buntings, and 2 Chiffchaffs all singing. There were also 2 pairs of Gadwall a few Mallard, 1 Redshank and several Swifts and Lapwings. 2 Brown Hares were hunkered down in the Symphony compound and a Ringed Plover called from the ash plain nearby.
