Edderthorpe Friday

With the rising water levels many of the waders have now moved on although it is clearly excellent feeding for dabbling duck. A few counts today include;- Canada Goose 560, Shelduck 1, Mallard 320 (probably many were out in the fields), Garganey 2, Gadwall 52, Shoveler 202 is a very high count for August and not too far off the Barnsley record count which according to the 2012 BBSG annual report is 210 at Edderthorpe during 2006 and again in 2008.
Waders seen;- Lapwing 815, Black-tailed Godwit 4, Ruff 5, Knot 1 (first seen yesterday), Dunlin 1, Ringed Plover 1 and Greenshank 2. Lesser Black-backed Gulls were dropping in to bathe with 33 during the early morning. A Reed Warbler is still on the corner pond.
